BYO Bags
South Australia leads the country by banning lightweight 'checkout' bags. These bags will be phased out as of January 1st 2009 and will be totally banned by May 4 2009. This initiative will contribute 400 million less bags circulating in South Australia.
Those traders who choose to ignore the plastic bag ban could be subject to fines of up to $20,000.
So now is the time to get into the habit of bringing your own reusable bags when you go shopping.
The bags that will be legal to use include, Sturdy bags, Barrier Bags, Compostable Bags, Paper Bags and Heavier Retail (eg: Department Store) Bags.
